Council backs GEA program designed to help local businesses grow Gladstone Regional Council has lent its support to an innovative financial literature program designed to help regional businesses remain viable during uncertain economic conditions. 'Scaling Your Business, Creating Your Jump', a 90-day program to be conducted by the Gladstone Engineering Alliance, beginning next Thursday (May 18), is designed to help Gladstone Region business owners and decision makers grow their businesses despite the difficult economic climate. Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said Council's objective to help all local businesses to build resilience would be boosted by the GEA program. "There's no doubt that some businesses are doing it tough, but whether they are an established concern or starting up, this program will help business owners and decision makers to identify and overcome difficulties and realise their business's full potential, "'Scaling Your Business, Creating Your Jump' will provide participants with professional advice to help focus on their objectives; identify strengths and weaknesses regarding the creation of business value, revenue and profit; and strategies for achieving 2017-18 financial year objectives. "Given Council's desire to help create a robust business community capable of riding out the tough times which inevitably arrive from time to time, we are happy to be a sponsor for the event." Council's Commercial Services Committee Chair Cr PJ Sobhanian said the 90-day program would address a number of important issues which, when handled well, would enable businesses to scale or jump their way to new heights. "Business owners can receive advice about the best time to invest in their businesses, how to avoid business 'black holes', when to invest in sales efforts, channels and distribution, how to develop their product and brand, and how to identify possible issues holding back their business," Cr Sobhanian said. The 'Scaling Your Business, Creating Your Jump' program, consisting of a two-day conference, ongoing accountability and networking group sessions and a workshop, with the option of attending single events, continues until August 17, 2017, and caters for those involved in business to business concerns rather than the business to consumer market.
