The Blackdown Tableland National Park will remain closed this weekend due to the ongoing fire risk in the area.

Parks and wildlife rangers have been working to contain a bushfire in the north-east corner of the park.

Conditions are expected to be perfect for bushfires over the weekend due to high temperatures and winds increasing to about 20kays an hour.

The fire danger rating is high today and tomorrow in the Central Highlands and Coalfields, while it’s sitting at moderate in Capricornia today and is expect to be high tomorrow.

These conditions increase the risk of the bushfire once again threatening the park, or new fires starting.

As a result, QPWS has extended the current closure of the park until 9am on Monday (25 September 2023) and will re-assess conditions before re-opening.

QPWS crews will continue to conduct patrols of the park during the closure to identify anyone unlawfully on park.

Campers booked between today and Monday will have their bookings cancelled and will be contacted by the QPWS bookings team in relation to a credit or refund.
