Waiting for a bus while exposed to the pouring rain or blistering sun, will soon become a thing of the past for some locals.
The State Government has announced a $57,000 grant, to build three new bus stop shelters in the Livingstone Shire Council region.
Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga says they’re among more than 100 new shelters to be installed at bus stops across Queensland this financial year.
“The new shelters will provide a more comfortable waiting environment commuters who can be bathed in our famous Queensland sunshine one minute and seeking cover from a storm the next,” she says.
“We are working hard to eliminate barriers for people to access the public transport network, delivering on one of the five priorities in our Creating Better Connections 10-year plan.”
In the Keppel electorate the bus stops to be upgraded include two on Matthew Flinders Drive and one on the Scenic Highway.
Funding for new bus stop shelters is being provided to 12 local governments across Queensland in 2022-23.
