Man arrested following Gladstone crime spree

A 51-year-old New Auckland man has been arrested following a string of offences over the weekend.

It is alleged that on Friday at 8:30pm, the man entered a business along Hanson Road in Gladstone Central by climbing over a gate.

He is then accused of getting into a forklift and driving into the front gate of the business, causing damage, before driving the forklift back to its original spot.

Police say at 8:00am on Saturday the man entered a business on Neil Street in Callemondah and climbed over the fence, removing a set of keys to a vehicle before driving it around Gladstone.

At 10:00am police observed the vehicle driving from an address on Hanson Road in Gladstone where they intercepted the man and arrested him for the other offences.

Police later conducted further inquiries and identified the vehicle as stolen.

Upon being arrested, police conducted a search of the man and allegedly located a flick-knife, a pair of knuckle dusters and a glass pipe with scorch marks.

Police also searched the 51-year-old’s backpack and located a machete and tomahawk style axe.

The 51-year-old has since been charged with eight offences including enter premises and commit indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of weapons.

The man was originally granted bail to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on January 10, 2023.

Police then allege on Sunday at around 8:50am, the man assaulted an employee at a business on Goondoon Street in Gladstone Central, by throwing a cup towards her, the cup narrowly missing the employee and hitting the wall.

He’s then accused of walking into a room at the same business which was closed for a private function.

Police say he used coffee facilities in the room before removing a meal pack from the function and leaving the business, before being arrested by police a short time later.

Upon his arrest police report that they located a clip seal bag of Methylamphetamine on the man.

The 51-year-old was further charged with one count of common assault, one count of enter premises and commit indictable offence by break and one count of possessing dangerous drugs.

His bail was refused, and he appeared before the Gladstone Magistrates Court yesterday.
