A man has been charged over a string of random attacks that saw two tradies stabbed and an Uber driver assaulted at Frenchville.
It will be alleged around 1.40pm yesterday, the 21-year-old man approached a 41-year-old man along Simpson Street before punching him in the face and threatening him with a knife.
The 41-year-old man sustained minor physical injuries.
Then around 1.50pm, police and emergency services were called to the Frenchville following reports two men had been stabbed.
It will be alleged the 21-year-old man entered a Clifton Street premises and approached a 21-year-old man who was sitting down, before stabbing him in the neck, leaving him with lacerations.
The man then allegedly walked outside into the carpark and approached a 39-year-old man also stabbing him and causing an injury to his neck.
The 39-year-old man was transported to Rockhampton Base Hospital with serious injuries and later transported to Royal Brisbane Hospital.
Detective Acting Superintendent Luke Peachey said with all attacks being random and unprovoked, “it’s probably really good luck we are not talking about murders”.
A 21-year-old man from Park Avenue was arrested a short time later and has been charged with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, and one count each of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, and wilful damage.
Det Act Supt Peachey said it was good work by police to take the man into custody so quickly after the alleged incidents.
“I’d also like to thank the licensed premises, they could not be more helpful in shutting down their business that day so the police could work the crime scene and look at the CCTV footage,” he said.
“It’s not the behaviour we are accepting in our society, and it definitely is in Rockhampton, and we’ll be throwing every resource we’ve got to make sure this person remains in custody and is not released back in custody because we believe that he’s not acceptable to be back in society.”
Investigations are ongoing.
