CapRescue has been called to an incident on a bulk carrier off the Central Queensland coast.

A 49-year-old man had suffered a serious medical episode while on a ship around 100 nautical miles north of Rockhampton around 10.20am yesterday.

The crew winched the man back to the chopper and flew him to Rockhampton in a stable condition.

Acting CEO Kirsty Wooler said the mission demonstrated the specialised capability of the CapRescue crew and the importance of maintaining an aeromedical rescue service.

“Conducting winch rescues at sea requires a high level of skill, coordination and teamwork,” she said.

“Thanks to the expertise of our crew and our partnership with AMSA, we were able to safely retrieve the patient and bring him back to definitive medical care.”
