Power cut after severe storms bring heavy rain and large hail

Severe thunderstorms have swept through Central Queensland, cutting power to hundreds of homes.

A weather warning was issued from the Bureau of Meteorology yesterday afternoon for damaging storms around the Capricornia and Central Highlands regions.

More than 1,500 homes lost power across Biloela, Banana and Gladstone areas.

Around 600 locals are still without power this morning at Bororen, Foreshores, Miriam Vale, Rodds Bay, Turkey Beach and Benaraby.

Gladstone also recorded nearly 40mm of rain and golf ball sized hail.

A man has also been rescued from floodwaters near Baralaba this morning.

The man in his 60s drove into the flood waters on Baralaba Banana Road around 4.45am.

Emergency services got the man to safety and have taken him to Biloela Hospital in a stable condition.
