Two new tiny Street Libraries have been re-installed in Yeppoon, making books more accessible to residents and visitors.
One is located outside the Yeppoon Information Centre near the main roundabout into Yeppoon, and the second is outside the Farnborough Store near the Farnborough School.
Livingstone Shire Libraries has collaborated with the Yeppoon Information Centre and the Farnborough Store to install them.
They build on Council’s previous little libraries, which have become old and weathered.
The initiative aims to enrich the community with better access to books and foster a spirit of sharing, and learning.
Portfolio Holder of Vibrant Communities, Councillor Rhodes Watson says street libraries do more than promote the joy of reading.
“Street Libraries are our little literary hubs designed to cultivate a love for books among people of all ages while encouraging a sense of community spirit. They also facilitate the sharing economy and contribute to a more sustainable future.
“Council is thrilled to witness the installation of these two new Street Libraries. They present a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors alike to explore the world of books and engage with diverse narratives.
“Anyone can take a book, share a book, or give a book, encouraging a continuous exchange of knowledge and enjoyment. I encourage everyone to conveniently pick up a book that piques their interest and later return it to the Street Library network or share it with your friends.”
Livingstone Shire Libraries and its partners say they are committed to maintaining the Street Libraries and ensuring they remain a valuable resource for the community.
To keep the libraries thriving, locals are being urged to only donate books in good condition.
