Troubling road stats for road safety week

Too many local drivers are still ignoring the fatal five – especially when it comes to speeding.

Despite increased messaging due to National Road Safety Week, the number of traffic offences are still disturbingly high.

Capricornia District road stats for the past week show 259 speeders were caught and 41 drivers had alcohol or drugs in their system.

Five high range speeds were detected – including one driver nabbed doing more than 150 kays an hour at Norman Gardens.

Another driver was clocked doing 120in a 80 zone at Callemondah.

This week was Road Safety Week, with all drivers across the region urged to be careful on our roads.

Two men sadly died on our roads this week, with two hospitalised.

One man died after a single vehicle crash south of Miriam Vale.

Another died after a three vehicle crash near Bajool, with two men taken to Rockhampton Hospital.
