Above is just oneGladstone’s main street frontages receives bright facelift to attract, educate and inform tourists and the community about the region. THE history, recreation and lifestyle of Gladstone will be on show in the main street from next week with empty retail store windows being decorated with giant, colourful and informative displays showcasing the region. A joint initiative between the Gladstone Engineering Alliance (GEA), Gladstone Area Promotion Development Limited (GAPDL), Gladstone Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and the Gladstone Regional Council (GRC), the new window displays will feature the history of the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race, the recreational lifestyle of the Gladstone Harbour and interesting facts about the Gladstone region. GEA Chief Executive Officer Carli Homann said the project came about after a number of cruise ship passengers and members of the community were surveyed indicating people wanted to know more about Gladstone and what it has to offer. “We live in a beautiful region of Australia and we have many fantastic attractions but for many visitors like cruise ship passengers it is difficult to get a clear understanding of how we live, work and play,” Ms Homann said. “As many are aware there are a number of empty shops along Goondoon Street and unfortunately cruise ship passengers walk past these shops so a project like this will not only brighten-up the CBD but also give those tourists and locals alike the opportunity to learn about the region. The shop premises that have been decorated with Gladstone region information are 67 Goondoon St, 76 Goodnoon St (old Bendigo Bank) and the old flower emporium at 89 Goondoon St. “The project is about bringing life back into the CBD and being able to be proud of where we live but it is also about showcasing what the region has to offer not only just in a work capacity but in a lifestyle choice,” Ms Homann said.
