Sending an SOS re Blood can you help?
There are still more than 30 appointments available in Gladstone over the next 2 weeks for whole blood donations, and more than 60 for plasma donations. In Rockhampton there are over 70 appointments for whole blood donations over the same period, and others for plasma donations. We therefore call on people who do not have a donation appointment to please try and make one as soon as they are able at the Gladstone Donor Centre, on the grounds of the District Hospital, or the Rockhampton Donor Centre on Quarry Street – also on the grounds of the Rockhampton Base Hospital. Each donation will help save the lives of 3 people, will change the lives of countless loved ones, and only takes an hour of your time. Anyone thinking of donating is urged to call 13 14 95 or visit donateblood.com.au for more information and to book their appointment time. At this time of year, many of us are looking forward to a well-earned holiday, but the need for blood never takes a break. Many of our regular donors are among those away on holiday so we are asking new donors, or those who have donated in some time, to roll up their sleeves and give blood at this critical time of year. Some blood products have a shelf-life of as little as 5 days, so it is vital that a steady flow of donations is maintained around public holidays to ensure patients receive their life-saving treatments. With this in mind, both Gladstone and Rockhampton donor centres will be open an extra day (SATURDAY 30 DECEMBER) in the coming week to help support patient demand. 1 in 3 of us will need blood or blood products at some point in our lives, however only 1 in 30 donates. With this in mind, over 22,000 new donors will be needed in Queensland this year to ensure we meet patient demand for blood products both now and into the future, including more than 580 in Gladstone and 780 in Rockhampton. Its a big ask but can you spare some time and maybe save a life.Cheers MjB
