Assisted dying to become legal in Victoria
Victoria will be the first Australian state to legalise voluntary assisted dying after parliament passed new laws.
The state's upper house on Wednesday took a vote, with 22 of 40 MPs supporting the legislation which has been thoroughly debated and widely amended since it was introduced by the Labor government.
The outcome follows a second night-long sitting of the legislative council and amendments must now be approved by the lower house but are not expected to be opposed.
