Mayor hits back at claims #Rockhamptoncan ad was a white wash
Rockhampton Council has removed its tourism advertising online after it was accused of not including those who identify as Indigenous and as a 'white wash'.
The advertisement for our region showed scenes of people and local attractions.
But Indigenous Australians have criticised it for depicting only white people.
Council removed the video within an hour and apologised following the online backlash.
Twitter comments read...
"We have now taken this video down,"
"You are right and we should not be promoting the Rockhampton Region without celebrating the Darumbal people, the area's long history and our diverse community.
"We apologise and we will do better."
Today Mayor Margaret Strelow has taken to social media stating that in fact "the opening shot is of a proud Darumbal woman rowing on the river.
The treetop canopy shot on Mount Archer has a young woman who is clearly of Asian descent, and there is a proud Greek Australian too."
