Sewage Leak Causing Issues In Yeppoon
A sewage leak is causing issues at a Pump Station in Yeppoon.
Livingstone Shire Council said the problem was identified on Sunday at approximately 4:00PM.
Crews have stabilised the leak overnight and are onsite minimising discharge to the marine environment on Monday.
As a result of the leak, this discharge may potentially find its way along Ross Creek and into the ocean.
Council advises beachgoers to swim NORTH of the Surf Life Saving Club at Yeppoon’s Main Beach area as a precautionary measure.
Signage has been erected along the Yeppoon Foreshore area, Ross Creek and Merv Anderson Park to inform residents of the leakage and Council encourages residents to avoid entering the water in these areas today until the leak has been rectified.
Council is also asking residents to take shorter showers, and avoid any unnecessary use of washing machines today to assist in reducing the production of waste water collected throughout the sewage pipelines.
Updates will be provided on Council’s Facebook page throughout the day as information becomes available.
Council encourages the community to continue to contact us when water quality issues arise in Livingstone so that timely investigations can be undertaken.
