Severe Thunderstorm Warning

UPDATE | The Severe Thunderstorm Warning for people in Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett Forecast Districts has been cancelled.

Severe thunderstorms were no longer occurring in Queensland as of 11:03PM on Thursday.

According to the BOM 67mm fell at Jambin (north of Biloela) in one hour.

Only 11mm was recorded at Biloela and very little landed in Gladstone itself.

The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary.

EARLIER | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for heavy rainfall is current for people in parts of Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett Forecast Districts.

Severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are occurring in the Capricornia and Wide Bay.

Weather Situation:

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Mundubbera and Eidsvold.

67mm has fallen at Jambin (north of Biloela) in 1 hour.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 11:55 pm.

If severe thunderstorms develop in the Southeast Queensland area (east of Dalby from Rainbow Beach to Stanthorpe), a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
