New program tackles youth crime
A new Policing technique could be leading to crime reductions in Capricornia.
The co-responder model was implemented locally a few weeks ago, involving an officer being paired with a youth justice worker to engage with the community.
Detective Acting Inspector Luke Peachey said their role was not to arrest juvenile offenders or detect offences.
"Their role is actually to go out and engage with these at-risk juveniles as well as their families," he said, adding the last couple of weeks had seen a significant reduction in local crime.
"Last week I think we had, there was three nights in row we had no break and enters at all in Rockhampton which is just unheard of," he said.
