In a special moment in history, a Gladstone high school is preparing to farewell its first ever cohort of Year 12 students.

Carinity Education provides a learning system for students having difficulty in traditional schools, inspiring them to achieve their goals.

Principal Jane Greenland says many of the students are the first in their family to graduate.

"It's been a long journey with them, their self confidence and belief in their abilities was very low when they first started with us,'' Ms Greenland says.

The 16 students will graduate today with official documents and a new-found confidence in themselves.

"Some of them are leaving with certificates and VET certificates, they're also leaving with their QCE, and most importantly they have a belief that they can do their schoolwork and achieve their goals".
