Teen banned from flying after making terrorist "joke" on plane
A Melbourne teenager is banned from flying with from Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin after posting a “joke” to social media about committing a terrorist attack during a flight to Queensland.
The 19-year-old woman posted to video platform Tik Tok whilst boarding the flight from Melbourne, prompting multiple calls to the National Security Hotline.
It sparked a response from Queensland and Victorian police services and the Australian Federal Police.
Both Queensland Police and AFP wouldn’t clarify what flight the woman was on or what Queensland airport she was travelling to.
The AFP says regardless of intent, jokes about committing a terrorist attack and airline security are never a laughing matter and may have unintended consequences.
Anyone with information about extremist activity or possible threats to the community should come forward, no matter how small or insignificant you may think the information may be.
The National Security Hotline is 1800 123 400.
