Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash, south west of Rockhampton, that has left an elderly couple with serious injuries.

The pair, aged in their 70s, have been airlifted to hospital after the car they were travelling in hit a drain and flipped onto its roof, near Kokotungo, west of Baralaba.

They were driving through long grass, when they hit the culvert and nose dived, at around 3.40pm yesterday.

The white 2019 Hyundai Kona stationwagon was travelling east on Baralaba Rannes Road, when it veered off at the intersection with Baileys Road.

The woman had to be cut free from the wreckage and was flown to Rockhampton Hospital. Her husband is in the same hospital.

Police are calling for eye witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward.
