Busy long weekend at our beaches
A busy weekend for local lifeguards as Queenslanders flocked to the beach for the ANZAC long weekend.
There were over 5,000 preventative actions undertaken across the three day period alone, with 240 of those across the Wide Bay Capricorn region.
Surf Life Saving Queensland's Peta Lawlor says the best way to avoid putting your life at risk is swimming between the red and yellow flags.
"Don't risk the rip, don't risk swimming in a place that might look great, to the untrained eye it could be very dangerous and it could unfortunate cost a life and we want people to enjoy themselves at the beach,"
The local surf life saving season is now winding down, with next weekend the final weekend on patrol for our volunteer surf life savers.
Ms Peta Lawlor says even though we haven't seen international tourists come in this season, we've still had some big numbers turn up to our beaches.
