With colder months set to kick in, locals are encouraged to book in for their annual flu shot.

Health experts recommend everyone over the age of six months get vaccinated.

So far this year there has only been three recorded cases of influenza across Central Queensland Hospital and Health Services.

Dr Jon Harper says it's important to protect yourself from the flu.

"Flu can make you fell pretty rotten for a few day and can take you out of your normal life, you can't go to work you don't feel like doing much," Dr Harper says.

He also says receiving the jab can prevent others from catching the flu.

"Flu causes complications for particular vulnerable people, so older Australians and those with severe lung disease, heart disease and diabetes things like that," Dr Harper says.
