Rockhampton police are investigating the sudden death of a child at a Berserker home early on Saturday (July 30).

Police attended a Waterloo Street property to perform a welfare check at approximately 2.20am, where officers located an 8-year-old boy unresponsive.

His death is being treated as suspicious.

Detectives have established a crime scene at the residence, and the Rockhampton Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) has launched an investigation.

A 36-year-old woman is currently assisting police with enquiries.

The child and woman are known to each other.
