Qld fare evader nicks taxi and hits cabbie
In the space of minutes, a man on the Gold Coast went from refusing to pay his cab fare to stealing the taxi only to be quickly nabbed because of the vehicle's tracking system.
The man was one-of-two passengers sharing a ride to different destinations after they were collected early on Sunday morning from Gold Coast University Hospital, police say.
At the first stop, one man paid and got out of the cab while the other refused.
After the cabbie got out of the vehicle to call the police, the fare evader slipped from the front passenger seat across to the driver's seat and sped off.
As he drove off, the vehicle hit the cabbie who sustained minor injuries and was treated at Robina Hospital.
Police used the vehicle's GPS and found the taxi abandoned outside an Adelaide Street address in Beenleigh.
A 24-year-old Windaroo man has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
