Wighton won the Clive Churchill Medal in the Raiders' grand final defeat last year, before earning Australia honours for the first time.

The 27-year-old has only played for the Raiders and lit up the NRL in 2019 after switching from fullback to five-eighth, while also making his State of Origin debut for NSW at centre.

Wighton's four-year deal is reportedly worth more than $3 million and the versatile playmaker knocked back higher offers from rival clubs.

He'll partner England international recruit George Williams in the halves after Aidan Sezer was released to join Super League club Huddersfield.

Joey Leilua (Wests Tigers) and Jordan Rapana (rugby union) were the only other Raiders starters to depart since the grand final.

Canberra also signed highly-touted Curtis Scott but his future remains uncertain as the former Melbourne centre fights police charges laid against him last month.

The Raiders are still in negotiations with co-captain Jarrod Croker and NSW and Australian centre Nick Cotric, who are off contract at the end of the season.

Canberra open their season at home against Gold Coast on March 13.
