Return to the world of Pokemon later this year in October as the newest entry in the franchise arrives on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is the second instalment in the Pokemon Legends title, the first instalment of Pokemon Legends: Arceus was one the most critically acclaimed entries in the franchise in many years.
The Legends series adopted a new format that focused less on gym badges and Pokemon battles and more on a living breathing open-world full of creatures to catch and putting greater emphasis on completing your Pokédex. Legends: Arceus saw great critical and fan praise for this breath of fresh air breathed into the series, returning to the Sinnoh region with new starters set in the past giving it one of the most unique feelings for a Pokemon entry. Pokemon Legends: Z-A returns to the modern day in Lumiose city in the Kalos region with two overlooked starters Tepig & Chikorita, and everyones favourite idiot Totodile.
The game’s official blurb reads:
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a new frontier for the Pokémon video game series, blending an RPG story unfolding in a single city with action elements and a real-time battle system unlike anything seen before in the franchise. Trainers can look forward to the beginning of a new adventure in Lumiose City — one woven by people and Pokémon together!
Legends: Z-A also brings back a much-beloved game mechanic in mega-evolution, a fan favourite gimmick. Highlighting some old favourite mega’s returning as well some new ones to join the line-up on mega evolving Pokemon (Give me my Mega Marowak already you cowards). Another major difference in this title compared to others is that Legends: Z-A takes place entirely in Lumiose City. Many other titles have you explore entire regions, similar to Legends: Arceus in which you explored all of ancient Sinnoh, however, Z-A looks to break away from this and put major emphasis on the city of Lumiose as a primary part of the game’s story.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A is shaping to be potentially one of the hottest outings for the Pokemon franchise it’s seen in many years. Better start deciding now who your starter will be, you’re going to need it of you’re planning on being the very best, like no one ever was
You won’t have to wait much longer for it, the game just this morning was given a release date of October 16, 2025 for both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
