Dozens charges and hundreds fines during CQ road safety blitz

Central Queensland police have put dangerous drivers on notice, as our road toll continues to climb.

They have launched Operation Interpose targeting drivers breaking the law, already clocking a motorcyclist at 221km/h on the Capricorn Highway last week.

The man had his black Yamaha confiscated, was fined $4589, received a loss of 20 demerit points and had his license suspended for six months after police caught him allegedly speeding three times on the highway on the same day, allegedly travelling at 136 km/h in a 110 km/h zone near Duaringa, 221 km/h near Wallaroo and 220 km/h near Dingo.

Between April 25 and May 25, police conducted 21,230 roadside breath tests and 624 roadside drug tests, charged 93 drink drivers and 116 drug drivers, and issued 1900 traffic infringement notices, including 27 for hooning-specific offences.

The road toll in Capricornia has now reached 10 deaths in 2026.
