Our region has been flagged as a possible spot for a fuel storage or refining facilities.
It’s part of the Queensland Government’s Fuel Security Plan, aiming to minimise reliance on global supply chains.
As part of the framework the Government has launched expressions of interest for a number of sites across the state, including in Brisbane, Townsville, Mackay, Gladstone, Abbot Point, and Bundaberg.
Premier David Crisafulli says it’s a step in the right direction, bolstering our regions supply capability.
“We must restore our ability to drill, refine and store fuel right here in Queensland, so we are never again left at the mercy of global supply chains,” Mr Crisafulli says.
“More storage and refining fuel locally means it’s easier for families to fill up and small businesses to stay afloat amidst rising national cost pressures.”
