Keppel MP lodges complaint with police over alleged drink spiking and sexual assault

Police are investigating allegations local State Labor MP Brittany Lauga was drugged and sexually assaulted in Yeppoon about a week ago.

In a statement posted on social media, Ms Lauga said she contacted police on Sunday April 28 to report the incident.

The Member for Keppel wrote that tests at the hospital confirmed the presence of drugs in her body which she did not take.

She said she has since been contacted by other women with similar experiences in the town.

Police have confirmed they are investigating a sexual assault complaint relating to the incident.

They say all reports of drink spiking are taken seriously and they’re encouraging anyone who believes they were victims to contact them as soon as possible.

Queensland Premier Steven Miles said the government is supporting Ms Lauga in any way it can.
