Police find stolen snake in teen’s pocket

Police have rescued a snake, allegedly stolen from a pet shop in Gladstone.

Two Clinton boys, aged 15 and 12, are accused of stealing the serpent from Port City Pet World on Tuesday.

They also allegedly stole fishing equipment from another business and broke into two buildings at a school on Paterson Street around 8.20pm that same night.

Officers located the pair nearby on the Dawson Highway and questioned them over the incidents, before allegedly finding the stolen snake in the 15-year-old’s pocket.

They seized the small snake, with the assistance of local snake catcher Scott Carson who looked after it overnight, before they were able to reunite it with Port City Pet World manager Terry.

The two youths have since been charged over the incidents.

The 15-year-old boy is due to face Gladstone Children’s Court at a later date, charged with two counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence and two counts of stealing.

The 12-year-old boy has been dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act, charged with two counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence and two counts of stealing.
